Trumbull, CT was once part of the town of Stratford during its earliest days, being separated out into Trumbull in 1725. It was nearly called Nickol’s Farms, but ultimate was given the name Unity. Fifteen years later, the town of Long Hill would be formed west of Unity, though it would only take four years for the communities to merge and become North Stratford. North Stratford was still legally under the administrative authority of Stratford at this time, a state which would continue until 1797.

This marked the end of 17 years of struggling to gain their independence of Stratford and resulted in the area being renamed to Trumbull. The city, now known as Trumbull, CT, had been thriving over the last 100 years thanks to the presence of multiple industries in the area. A gristmill was constructed in 1704 by John Seeley, joining a sawmill that had been constructed just a year prior. Mineral resources originally identified in 1757 resulted in the construction of a mine in 1837 focused on the mining of Tungsten. The Housatonic railroad would arrive in 1840, serving the area for nearly a century with its 15 miles of track running to multiple locations along the river. Connecticut Route 8 would be built after the railroad was ripped up. Today the population of the city has grown to a booming 36,000 people who live and work in the surrounding area. The town has produced some notable people in its time, including Igor Sikorsky, the man credited with the invention of the helicopter.
