After the war was over, 1850 would see the arrival of the railroad, linking the cities of Norwalk and Danbury together. Aside from its historical interest, the community also has a claim to a geological oddity as well. The local mine produces nine minerals, some of which were unknown at the time it was first created. In addition to columbite, beryl, feldspar, quartz, mica, and spodumene, the bedrock under the train station was found to be an immense and pure deposit of garnet.
