Within the Westchester County town of Mamaroneck in New York State can be found the community of Larchmont, NY. During these intervening years, the Manor House would be built as a home for Peter Jay Munro. He quickly discovered that the Boston Post Road that passed in front of his home generated a lot of dust during the summer, leading him to plant an assortment of fast-growing Scottish larches as a break. These larches would one day be the origin of the town’s name. This naming would happen in 1891 when the people of Larchmont sought to have their portion of Mamaroneck incorporated as a village. The incorporation Larchmont, NY of required an expansion of its boundaries to include enough residents to meet the 300 per square mile minimum. Today this geographically small community is home to over 6,000 people, many of whom commute to New York City for work.
